A few years have passed since Nike last brought the Air Flight 89 to market, but it’s set to make a resounding return at the tail end of 2019. Appearing in familiar “University Red’ and “Royal Blue” makeups as well as a new beige style that swaps out the traditional full leather construction in favor of a leather/suede mix, all three feature a mid-cut upper with a striking “Air Flight” graphic splayed across the tongue and shortened Swooshes on the collar. However, the most notable part of these Nike shoes is their midsole and outsole tooling — details borrowed directly from the Air Jordan 4, a shoe the Air Flight debuted alongside in 1989. From being rocked on-court by Scottie Pippen to later sightings on the feet of a pre-adidas contract Kanye West at the airport, the Flight 89 is a shoe with a rich history that’ll begin its next chapter later this year when it releases on Nike.com for $120 USD.
