Japan’s collector culture is unlike anything else in the world. And with the upcoming Air Max 1 “Sofvi,” Nike is attempting to emulate the country’s enthusiasm, bridging the cultures of two very different collectibles: sneakers and vinyl toys.
Expected to release during the Fall of this year, the Nike Air Max 1 “Sofvi” is designed in a way reminiscent of the soft vinyl toys to which it owes its namesake. Bright colors are employed throughout the upper, with red popping along the leather mudguard. The Swoosh is equally notable, clad in a silver reflective material that wouldn’t be out of place on a figure of Ultraman. Elsewhere, a TPU material wraps the quarter and heel, its translucent finish subtly tinted gold. What’s more, bold graphics complete with Japanese text cover both the insole and packaging, further likening the pair to the aforementioned collectible.
Enjoy a closer look at the Nike Air Max 1 “Sofvi” via the official images ahead. No release date has been confirmed just yet, but it’s reported that a release will take place sometime this Fall.
In other news, the CLOT fragment Nike Dunk Low is releasing again tomorrow.
